To connect a custom domain, add it in your funnel platform's domain settings, then create the DNS records it asks for (usually a CNAME or A record) at your domain registrar. Once the records propagate, which can take anywhere from a few minutes to a day or two, you assign the domain to your funnel and turn on SSL. The exact labels differ by platform, so follow the on-screen instructions in your account and confirm current details on the official site.
The basic steps
- Own a domain. Buy one from a registrar if you don't have one. Registrars and platforms may both sell domains, so check current pricing before you buy.
- Add the domain in your platform. Look for a section called Domains or Settings. Enter the domain or subdomain you want to use.
- Copy the DNS records. The platform will show you the record type, name and value. Copy them exactly.
- Add them at your registrar. Log in to the DNS management area and create the records. Delete any conflicting record for the same name.
- Wait, then verify. Use the platform's verify button. If it fails, wait and retry before changing anything.
- Assign it to your funnel. Pick the domain for the funnel, or for specific pages if the platform allows it. Then check that the secure padlock (SSL) shows in your browser.
Root domain or subdomain?
A subdomain such as go.yourbusiness.com is usually simpler. It typically uses a CNAME record and leaves your main website alone. A root domain such as yourbusiness.com can be trickier, since some registrars don't allow CNAME records there. Support varies by platform, so check what yours accepts.
| Option | Upside | Tradeoff |
|---|---|---|
| Subdomain | Easier setup, won't disturb an existing website | Slightly longer web address |
| Root domain | Shortest, cleanest address | May replace your current site; DNS setup can be fussier |

- Verification fails. Usually it's propagation delay or a typo in the record. Check for extra spaces or a duplicated domain name in the host field.
- No padlock. SSL certificates can take a while to issue after the domain verifies. Give it time before contacting support.
- Existing website broke. You probably pointed the root domain at your funnel. Reverse the DNS change and use a subdomain instead.
If you're still choosing a platform, check whether custom domains are included in the plan you're considering. That varies, so confirm on the official site. Our Systeme.io tutorial shows one platform's setup in practice.
