Most funnel launches don't fail because of the offer. They fail because of something small: a payment that never went through, a tracking pixel that fired twice, a thank-you page that links to nothing. This checklist covers the four areas worth checking before you send real traffic: payments, tracking, legal pages, and testing. Set aside a couple of hours. If you're still building, start with How to Build Your First Sales Funnel Step by Step and come back here when the pages exist.
Before You Start: Decide What "Ready" Means
You don't need a perfect funnel. You need one that takes money (or captures leads) correctly, tells you what happened, and doesn't create legal headaches. Anything else can be fixed after launch. Write down your single success event, such as "a purchase completes" or "an email is captured and the delivery email arrives." Every check below supports that event.
1. Payments
Connect and verify your processor
- Connect Stripe, PayPal, or whichever processor your platform supports. Step-by-step help is in How do I set up Stripe or PayPal payments in a funnel?
- Complete your processor's account verification. Unverified accounts can limit or delay payouts, and this is often the slowest step, so do it first.
- Confirm your payout bank details and currency.
Run a real test transaction
Test mode proves the wiring works. A small real purchase proves the money lands. Do both if your processor allows it, then refund yourself. Be aware that refunds may not return processor fees. Check your processor's current fee terms rather than assuming.
Check the offer details
- Price, currency, and any tax settings are correct on the checkout page.
- Payment plans or subscriptions charge on the schedule you expect.
- Order bumps and upsells appear in the right order and charge the right amounts. See How do I add an order bump or upsell to my funnel? and, for deeper setups, Advanced Funnel Workflows.
- The buyer gets a receipt and access instructions right away.
Tradeoff: Offering both Stripe and PayPal can lift conversions for buyers who prefer one, but it means two sets of payouts, disputes, and reports to reconcile. Start with one if you want simplicity.
2. Domain and Technical Basics
- Connect your custom domain if you're using one: How do I connect a custom domain to my funnel? DNS changes can take time to propagate, so don't leave this for launch morning.
- Confirm the page loads over HTTPS with no browser warning.
- Set a page title and description for each public page.
- Check every page on a phone. Most traffic from social ads and email will be mobile.
3. Tracking
Keep it minimal
Track the few things you'll act on: page views, opt-ins, checkout starts, and purchases. More data feels productive but rarely changes what you do in the first month.
- Analytics: Install your analytics tool or use your platform's built-in stats, and confirm it records a visit from your own device.
- Ad pixels: If you'll run paid ads, install the pixel and confirm the purchase or lead event fires once, not twice.
- UTM links: Tag links for each traffic source so you know where signups come from.
- Email list: Confirm new contacts get the right tag or list, since later automation depends on it.
Tradeoff: Built-in analytics are easier but often shallower than dedicated tools. Browser privacy settings and consent choices also mean any tracking undercounts. Treat numbers as directional.
4. Legal Pages
This is general information, not legal advice. Requirements vary by country, region, and what you sell, so consult a qualified professional if you're unsure, especially if you collect sensitive data, sell to multiple regions, or make income or health claims.
Pages most funnels need
- Privacy policy: Explains what data you collect, why, and who processes it (your email tool, payment processor, ad platforms).
- Terms and conditions: Covers what buyers get and what they agree to.
- Refund policy: State it plainly and make sure it matches what you actually do.
- Contact details: A working email address at minimum.
- Cookie notice or consent: Often required if you use tracking and have visitors in certain regions.
Where to put them
Link them in the footer of every page and near the checkout button. If you collect emails, add a clear consent line next to the form. Templates are a reasonable starting point, but edit them to match your real practices. A policy that says something untrue can be worse than a short, accurate one.

- Opt-in leads to the delivery email arriving in your inbox, not spam. Details in Lead Magnet Funnel Setup.
- Welcome, follow-up, and abandoned-cart emails are active and correctly triggered. See How to Set Up Email Automations for a Funnel.
- Every email has a working unsubscribe link and your sender identity.
- For courses or downloads, test that access links work for a brand-new account: launching a course or digital product.
6. End-to-End Testing
- Open the funnel in a private browser window, as a stranger would.
- Click through every button and link. Note dead ends.
- Submit the opt-in with a fresh email address.
- Complete a purchase, including any bump and upsell, then decline them in a second run.
- Check the confirmation page, receipt, and delivery or access email.
- Confirm the sale or lead shows in your dashboard, analytics, and ad platform.
- Repeat on mobile and in a second browser.
- Ask one person outside your business to try it and tell you where they hesitated.
Quick Reference
| Area | Must-pass check | Common miss |
|---|---|---|
| Payments | Real test purchase and refund | Unverified processor account |
| Tracking | Purchase event fires once | Duplicate pixels |
| Legal | Policies linked in footer and checkout | Template doesn't match practice |
| Delivery email arrives | Lands in spam or promotions | |
| Testing | Full run on mobile | Only tested on desktop |
How Long Should This Take?
For a simple funnel, a few hours is realistic, though payment verification and DNS can add waiting time. For broader timing, see How long does it take to build a sales funnel?
If Your Platform Is Getting in the Way
If you hit limits on payments, tracking, or automation while testing, that's useful information. Compare your options on the review and comparison pages, and confirm current features and pricing on each official site before deciding. If you already have a platform that's working against you, How to Migrate Your Funnel and Email List to a New Platform covers the move. For a hands-on walkthrough with one tool, try the Systeme.io tutorial, and browse more guides in Funnel Setup & Tutorials.
Launch with the checks above done, then expect to fix things. A funnel that's tested and live will teach you more than one that's still being polished.
